Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if I would benefit from therapy?

If you are asking this question, it is a good indication that there is a part of you that is ready or at least considering some sort of change. Therapy is most productive once a person realizes that personal challenges are not going to be overcome by repeating the same patterns.

How does therapy work?

Therapy is a relational process between people, each of whom brings unique knowledge to the conversation. Together, we will identify your goals. Our time together will be an interactive process focused on insight and self- awareness, problem-solving and guidance. I will ask questions and make observations and suggestions based on my experience and training. We will work to find the best path for you.

All sessions are conducted through secure video-conferencing or telephone. Most clients enjoy the convenience and find the experience surprisingly interactive and comfortable.

How long will I be in therapy?

The length of time we spend together depends upon your goals and we will review these regularly. You may begin to feel relief and clarity about the issue that brought you to therapy faster than you expected. It is the further exploration of interconnecting aspects of your life that may increase the time we spend together. While the relationship between the psychotherapist and the client is critical to a positive outcome, your readiness and commitment to do the work necessary for change will determine your ultimate satisfaction with the process. It is of the utmost importance to me that you feel safe, supported, and understood as you undertake this journey. The rest is up to you.

Cancellation policy?

At least 24 hours notice is required for cancellation or rescheduling. Missed/late cancelled appointments are charged in full. Emergencies and illnesses are taken into consideration.

Confidentiality?

Social workers are bound by professional and ethical standards to maintain strict confidentiality. I cannot disclose information about you without your written consent. The only exceptions to this are:

  • If you report threat of harm to yourself or someone else
  • If you report abuse or neglect of a child under the age of 16 years old
  • If you report abuse by another regulated health practitioner (e.g., Medical doctor, Chiropractor, Massage Therapist, Occupational Therapist)
  • If a court subpoenas the information.

If any of these situations arise, I would attempt to first speak with you if possible, unless there is imminent risk of harm.
